  • Diploma courses-– It’s a one or two-year program which allows doctors to get expertise and start practising sooner. This course offers specialized training in fields like ophthalmology (DO), otorhinolaryngology (ENT), child health (DCH), and anaesthesia (DA).
  • PhD in Medical Sciences– This program is research-oriented and significantly designed for individuals seeking medical research. Its duration lasts for three to five years.

Who can study PG Medical courses?

  • Candidates must have an MBBS degree from a recognized university affiliated with the Medical Council of India (MCI).
  • At the time of admission, an MBBS internship should be completed.
  • It’s mandatory to qualify NEET PG for most PG medical courses. Some institutions conduct their own entrance exams.

  • NEET PG stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Medical Postgraduate Courses conducted by the National Board of Examination(NBE). A total of 12,690 MS, 24,360 MD, and 922 PG Diploma seats are offered through NEET PG.
  • INI CET stands for Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi. A total of 872 seats in MD, MS, MDS, and MCh courses are offered through the INI CET exam.
  • Some diplomas and fellowships do not require passing the NEET PG exam, offering alternative pathways for specialisation in less common but equally important areas of medicine, such as pain management, sports medicine, or health informatics.
