About IIT Bombay

The institute was established in 1958 with assistance from UNESCO and stands out in matters of academic excellence. Recognised by both UGC and AICTE. IIT Bombay is ranked number 3 by NIRF 2023 under their Engineering ranking. The institute offers more than 80 courses under 17 departments in the stream of Engineering, science, technology at the UG, PG and doctoral levels. For admission to its PG courses, the institute accepts GATE, CEED, IIT JAM, CAT Scores. Further, it accepts MET (M.Phil. Entrance Test) for M.Phil. programme.

IIT BOMBAY COURSES:

  1. BTech– The course requires a minimum of 75 % aggregate with PCM in +2. The selection criteria requires candidates to clear JEE Mains and JoSAA Counseling. Course fee for the first year is equal to INR 2.31 lakhs.
  1. Tech + M.Tech– The course requires a minimum of 60% aggregate marks with PCM in +2 (55% for SC/ST/PWD) Admission to the course is given through JEE scores and JoSAA counseling. Course fee for the first year is equal to INR 230 lakh.
  1. BSc– The course requires a minimum of 55 % aggregate marks. The selection criteria requires candidates to clear IIT JAMS and JOAPS counseling. The course fee for the first year is equal to INR 2.31 lakhs.
  1. B Des – The course does not require a minimum score. The candidate must have passed his/her +2. Admission to the course is given through UCEED scores and counseling. First year fees is INR 2.31 lakhs.
  1. MBA– The course requires a bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline with at least 60 percent marks (55 % in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category.) Admission to the course is offered on the basis of CAT scores, performance in group discussion and interview round. First year fees is INR 4.29 lakhs.
  1. MTech– Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline with at least 60 %(55 % in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category.) Admission to the course is offered on the basis of GATE scores, COAP counseling followed by a written test and interview. First year fees is INR 59,300
  1. Des– A minimum of 55 % marks ( 50% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category.) Admission to the course is offered on the basis of CEED scores followed by other tests and interviews. First year fees is INR 59,300.
  2. MA + PhD– Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline with at least 60% marks (55 % in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category.) Admission to the course is offered on the basis of DEEP (dual degree entrance examination in philosophy.) First year fees is INR 44,300.
  3. Phd– M.E/MTech degree with 60% aggregate marks (55% for SC/ST/PH) or 60% (55% for SC/ST/PH) marks in MBBS/ M.Sc/ MBA/ MA OR Minimum 70% marks in B.E/B.Tech

IIT Bombay Placements

IIT Bombay Placements 2024 are finished. In phase 1 of IIT Bombay Placements, over INR 1 crore in annual job offers were given to 22 students in the first placement round of 2023–2024. The major highlights of the IIT Bombay Placements 2024 are given below:

 

  1. Among the 1,188 students that were placed, 1,340 employment offers were made.
  2. Airbus, Apple, Google, Intel, and numerous other companies participated in the 2024 IIT Bombay placements.
  3. Further hiring companies like American Express, Honda Japan, McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group etc also participated in the 2024 IITB placements
  4. The majority of the greatest wages have been earned in the field of research and development, where the average package at IIT Bombay so far is INR 36.90 LPA, over 14% more than the previous year. Additionally, in the first phase, 63 students received offers from abroad.
  5. The highest package international went to about INR 3.67 CPA.

IIT Bombay scholarships 2024

IIT Bombay offers numerous scholarships for you to avail  such as Post Graduate Assistantship, MS Scholarships, Teaching Assistantship for Dual Degree Programs, and Undergraduate Scholarships. Some of the most popular scholarship schemes offered by IIT Bombay are:

 

  1. Merit Cum Means Scholarship (Institute Scholarship): The Merit Cum Means Scholarship is awarded to the new entries based on their JEE AIR rank. The candidates eligible for the scholarship are those who have an annual family income less than INR 4.5 lakhs. A free tuition fee of INR 25,000 per semester is awarded to the student along with a benefit of INR 1000 per month to a maximum of 25% of undergraduate students. All the SC/ST Students are exempted from payment of tuition fees and are allowed to avail the facility of free mess along with a pocket allowance of INR 250 per month.

 

  1. IIT Bombay Heritage Fund Scholarship: The IIT Bombay Heritage Fund has been created by the Alumni of IIT Bombay in the USA, which collects donations from the alumni for the institution. Students eligible for the IIT Scholarship should have a parental annual income not exceeding INR 5 lakhs.

 

  1. Burjor Godrej Scholarship: IIT Bombay offers two Dr. Burjor Godrej Merit Scholarships of INR 5000 per month. Dr. Burjor Godrej Merit Cum Means Scholarships of INR 2000 per month, and Prof. MV Pandya Merit Cum Means Scholarships of INR 1000 per month. The above-mentioned scholarships are available to the students admitted to the M.Sc. Chemistry Programmes at IIT Bombay. The criterion for the Dr. Burjor Godrej Scholarship is the highest SPI scored by the students of the M.Sc programs.

 

  1. Aditya Birla Scholarship: The Aditya Birla Scholarship covers the entire course and scholars are rewarded with INR 65,000 per annum. However, the performance of the students is closely monitored for the renewal of awards every year. The performance assessment criteria for the Aditya Birla Scholars are based on qualitative and quantitative parameters. To be eligible for renewal of the Aditya Birla Scholarship, a candidate should be in the top 25% of his/her batch and must have a rating of at least 7 on the 9-point scale during the course work.

IIT Bombay campus facilities

IIT Bombay campus is spread over 545 Acres of land in Powai, amongst hills and flanked by the Powai and Vihar lake.

 

  1. Library: IIT Bombay Central Library is a four-storied building with an area of over 63,000 sq ft. It is located towards the North of the Main building. It has a total collection of 4.40 lakh items that comprises 2,53,504 Books, CDs & Videos, 21,403 E-Books, 1,19,576 Bound Volumes of Journals, 67,931 Reports, Pamphlets & Standards, 4,417 Photocopies, 37,00,000+ Journals (Print, Online). The library remains open from 9 AM to 11 PM on weekdays and 10 AM to 5 PM on weekends and holidays. The library has 12 servers, 45 PCs and other accessories adequate to cater to the needs of users. 6 PCs are meant for users to access OPAC, databases, e-books, e-journals and other e-resources. The reading area in the library has been WI-Fi enabled to provide wireless access to the Internet.

 

  1. Sports: The institute caters to a wide range of activities like badminton, table tennis, chess, yoga, basketball, football, and more for students. These sports facilities are organized and overseen by students.

 

  1. Event Venues: IITB has a variety of venues suitable for lectures, seminars, conferences, and personal events. Some of these venues include Victor Menezes Convention Center (VMCC), Lecture Halls, Auditoriums.

 

  1. IIT Bombay Hostels: IITB Campus comprises 17 hostels for students. Each hostel is an independent entity with its mess facilities, recreational areas, etc. The hostel fee at IIT Bombay is INR 17,250.
